CELTIC SHORTS – GORD ON THE HOLY GOALIE

By Trialist

Gordon Strachan has reassured Celtic fans about the future of Artur Boruc, who has been repeatedly the subject of Laptop Loyal speculation, especially since the Holy Goalie signed a contract extension at the Club until the summer of 2011.

With the latest Laptop Loyalism again linking 28-year old Artur Boruc with AC Milan, and also Bayern Munich and Spurs, Gordon Strachan responded in an interview with a Polish newspaper, which has been published in the Evening Times.

When it was suggested to Gordon Strachan that Celtic could struggle without Artur Boruc, whose value is being quoted as £10million or even £12million, the Celtic Manager responded: “Really? He has a contract, so I will not talk about if he leaves or not. When you sign a contract, it is to be honoured.”

That'll be the end of that, then?

When asked if the SPL is of a high enough standard for Artur Boruc to develop, Gordon Strachan was equally adamant: “Well it's better than the Polish league. Besides, don't forget I was the man who went to Poland and found Boruc, not Ancelotti or any of those other guys.”

Gordon Strachan continued: “We're still looking for a goalkeeper in Poland. In the last few years, Poland has become the best producer of goalkeepers.”

Gordon Strachan added: “So, if you would like to find a keeper, just go to Poland.”

Gordon Strachan also maintained his assertion that Artur Boruc is one of the world's best goalkeepers.

He said: “Because he is. I think he has that ability, character and presence. If you take these three factors and add talent, you have a real machine.”

And the Celtic Manager insisted that the Holy Goalie is not crazy, though he is “eccentric”.

Strachan said: “Charles Manson was crazy. I know some intelligent goalkeepers. Maybe eccentric? Yes, Boruc is eccentric.”

Asked what he considered to be the difference between Artur Boruc now and when he first arrived at Celtic in the summer of 2005, Strachan joked: “He's much richer!”

With doubts surrounding the future of Lee Naylor, Celtic have been linked with a move for West Brom's 29-year old left-back Paul Robinson (not the one in Neighbours), who has a year of his Baggies' contract to run.

Meanwhile, Gordon Strachan has attempted to minimise the assertion that Celtic are now favourites to win the SPL Championship, even though Celtic are three points ahead of the Huns and we have a superior Goal Difference of +57 compared to the Huns' +50.

Celtic have one League match to play – against Dundee United at Tannadice on Thursday – while the Huns play St Mirren tonight at Love Street and Aberdeen at Pittodrie on the final day of reckoning.

But Gordon Strachan said: “I haven't got a clue if we are favourites or not.”

Gordon Strachan continued: “Since I've been back in Scotland I've never picked up a paper, never watched any sports shows so I just roll up, play the games and go home.”

Gordon Strachan added: “There are all sorts of scenarios. Several weeks ago, I was dead and buried, so I was told, but my objective was always to take it to the last game, which was the best we could offer at that stage and now we've managed to do that.”

The Celtic Manager was also less than sympathetic to the whinging and whining from the Huns about their self-inflicted fixture congestion.

Gordon Strachan said: “Sympathy? Not really because I've been in similar situations myself.”
