BHOYS IN FOR BOULAHROUZ?
By Trialist
According to the News Of The World, Celtic are interested in Chelsea and Holland defender Khalid Boulahrouz.
In view of the tragic events that befell Khalid Boulahrouz and his wife Sabia in midweek (and our sincerest condolences to Khalid Boulahrouz, his wife Sabia), the following is a cut and paste job from the News Of The World, without our usual comments:
“Celtic have put Khalid Boulahrouz at the top of their summer shopping list.
Sport of the World understands Hoops boss Gordon Strachan wants the £5million-rated Chelsea stopper to boost his defence for next season's four-in-a-row bid.
Boulahrouz has been outstanding for Holland at Euro 2008, and his form in Austria and Switzerland has alerted a number of top clubs.
But Strachan hopes the lure of Champions League football could see him switch to Glasgow.
Moves to persuade Boulahrouz to swap Stamford Bridge for Parkhead were delayed this week by the tragic death of the player's premature baby daughter Anissa.
But the 26-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Seville, is aware of interest from the SPL champions and will consider their offer in the coming days, along with a bid from Marseille.
He has one season left on his Chelsea deal, but stands little chance of playing under incoming coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Chelsea shelled out £8.5m to land him from Hamburg two years ago. But he failed to break up the central defensive partnership of John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho and was used mostly at right back, where he rarely looked comfortable.
However, Boulahrouz has impressed at full back for the Dutch and that versatility has convinced Strachan to make a move.”
